报告题目:配电线路雷击感应过电压计算分析及防护研究

报告摘要:The safety and reliability of electric power supply are two of the major concerns in a smart grid. Recently as the power grid continues to expand, system outrages resulting from lightning are increasingly reported. In the median-voltage overhead distribution lines, line failures are often caused by lightning-induced overvoltages. In this seminar, we will review typical lightning failures on the distribution lines, evaluate the lightning overvoltages on the lines during an indirect lightning strike, and present design guidelines for protecting distribution lines effectively. Both analytical and numerical methods are introduced in this seminar to calculate lightning overvoltages. A variety of inferential factors are addressed, and their impact on the lightning overvoltages is discussed. A minimum set of key parameters are identified to facilitate the easy design of a lightning protection system. It is found that a shielding wire is an effective means to suppress the overvoltage, but its performance can be wiped out if the shielding wire is not properly installed. We will illustrate that grounding of shielding wires at every pole is the key to effective protection, which is often under-addressed. Another issue confusing the practicing engineers is whether the insulator voltage or the wire-to-ground voltage is more relevant for system design. This will be clarified in this seminar as well. The future research work of the lightning overvoltages on the overhead lines will be outlined finally.

He is currently the Associate Head and the Professor of the Department of Building Equipment Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a member of the IET and the Royal Chartered Engineers. He serves on the Steering Committee of the Asia Pacific Conference on Lightning, and the Chairman of the 2019 Asia Pacific Lightning Conference. Prof. Du leads a research team of nearly ten doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, and carries out the research in the areas of power quality, electricity safety, system electromagnetic compatibility, lightning transient and system protection in the electrical power grids, electrified railway systems, telecommunication systems, and buildings. For nearly a decade, the team has successfully secured the General Research Fund of Hong Kong Research Grant Council almost every year (equivalent to the National Natural Science Foundation of the Mainland). He has published more than 200 high-level papers, undertaken more than 90 industry projects, and developed PEEC and FDTD software packages for analyzing and researching power systems, communication systems, and high-tower electromagnetic transients.
